DETOURS

DETOURS, a performative walk that takes its point of departure from Södermalmstorg. The work outlines hidden and forgotten historical layers around the Slussen area in Stockholm; with Kamaly as the cicerone, the journey moves through places, sculptures, monuments and buildings that tells a story about the influence and oppression of architecture and public art. The guided tour is the result of a research-based artistic practice, where Kamaly reviews and brings overlooked memories of the past to the light and illuminates history. In a city which forever is on the run from its own past; where the asphalt, the buildings and the social life are more and more reminiscent of an architectural rendering, the last breath of the HOMETOWN project will be a reminder of urban developments and reconstructions but also a call to reject nostalgia and reclaim public space in order to take control of a common future.
